January 2011

Dear Friends and Family:

As this is our first newsletter this year, we wish you a very blessed 2011. The prophets of doom, who may or may not be correct, are predicting that these next two years will be monumentally bad. Jesus only told us to observe the signs. (Matthew 24:7&8) On that basis alone, we cannot expect it to be business as usual. Please read all of Matthew 24 & 25; it’s a good wake up call.

We are told that the average American has $8,000 worth of credit card debt, some only pay the interest. A good goal for 2011 would be to reduce debt. It means changing your lifestyle. For some time I have been mentoring Roy Rocha, a church planter in the Philippines, helping him to raise a basic support of only $400 per month. With that he can minister, pay rent and support his wife and three children. A couple of our friends have offered to assist, but we do need some more to help before April 1st. To introduce Roy to my friends I am taking a team to Manila from April 1st to the 12th. There will be a lot of opportunities for ministry or even physical work if some would prefer that. I would like to see a new bathroom attached to Roy’s slum church. Cost for this trip will be a return ticket plus approximately $100 per day for food, hotel and internal travel. We will also travel to Mindanao for a seminar and ministry with mountain Churches. That ticket is an additional $100.

I will be continuing on from the Philippines to minister in China and Korea. My trip to North America before Christmas was marred by huge problems with my voice and I had even been advised that it would never improve. But, many prayed and my doctor suggested some new treatment. I now have my voice back and virtually no cough. Thank you Jesus!

On Valentines Day I am booked for prostate surgery with one week’s recuperation. Darlene has endured a lot of pain since her knee surgery in October, but it has improved lately, though the specialist thinks a new knee may be necessary for her in the future. One dear friend, Carlton Spencer, said to me, “David, don’t get old.”
We would like to apologize for sending out envelopes printed with the wrong return address for Elim Fellowship. This has now been corrected and the new address is Elim Fellowship, 1703 Dalton Road, Lima, NY 14485. We are grateful to all who regularly or occasionally support us in our mission. We receive no salary. For all of the 44 years of our ministry, we have trusted God to supply and He has been faithful to do that through our friends. Thank you!

Please write soon if you would like to meet in Manila.

In His Love,
David, Darlene & Family
